KITCHEN RENOVATION
PRIVATE RESIDENCE
ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI

The Owner of this remodeled kitchen did not want to expand the overall size of the kitchen, however, as an avid cook, wanted and needed more counter space and storage.  As a result, countertops with birch base cabinets were maximized along all walls, and wall cabinets were extended to the ceiling, where top shelves are used for keep-sake storage items.  At the existing window with a low sill, the counter top was dropped to maintain the natural day-light and accommodate a desk, adding even more counter top area to the kitchen.

Floor-to-ceiling cabinets were added in the “corridor” of the kitchen and incorporate a French-door refrigerator/freezer.  The floor-to-ceiling cabinets include slide out drawers and shelving, along with a media cabinet to house equipment for the rest of the dwelling.

As the existing exterior walls are brick and block masonry, framing with insulation was added to the interior side of the wall.  This also allowed for new electrical access to service the kitchen without having to cut through existing masonry.

Sound batt insulation was added to the interior walls surrounding the kitchen, along with a swing door to help contain kitchen noise from the rest of the house.

Glass tiles were used as the backsplash and Silestone Quartz was used for the countertop.  The wood floors are red oak to match existing wood floors throughout the house and speakers for a stereo system were integrated in the ceiling to reduce clutter.
