MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY
STRONG HALL
SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI

This five-story, precast concrete building, houses classrooms and departmental offices for Missouri State University (formerly known as Southwest Missouri State University). Designed as a "U" shaped configuration, the building form creates a natural exterior amphitheater. A glass curtain wall serves as a backdrop to the amphitheater and enclosure for a four-story interior atrium. As the focal point of the building, the atrium provides students with a gathering space, a sense of orientation and vertical circulation.

The core of the Building is a series of classrooms consisting of computer laboratories, distance learning classrooms, seminar rooms, and tiered and level classrooms. Departmental offices are contained in the two wings on upper floors. The first floor wings house television and radio studios.

As project architect for Hastings and Chivetta Architects, Inc., Ms. Bozoian designed the exterior details and the interior circulation for Strong Hall. The construction cost was $17,800,000.
