U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS
RECEPTION STATION
FORT LEONARD WOOD, MISSOURI

Katherine Bozoian was the project designer for this 95,800 square foot reception station for inductees joining the United States Army.  The concept for the reception station is based on a linear scheme where an inductee walks in one end of the facility as a civilian and marches out the other end as a soldier.  Relief is offered within the linear circulation by spacious assembly areas, all naturally lit by clerestory windows above.

The processing areas are located off of each assembly space and include eye and medical exams, aptitude testing, liaison offices, etc.  Uniform issue is also located off of the circulation/assembly areas.  It is supported by an adjacent warehouse storage space containing pallets for uniform distribution.

The administration offices are located at the beginning of the linear scheme, which is most accessible for the army’s personnel assigned to the facility.  With offices at one end of the linear scheme, army personnel can have direct access to the administrative area, while the remainder of the facility can be locked.

The cafeteria and auditorium anchors the other end of the linear facility as it is most easily accessible from the barracks for the soldiers.  It offers inductees access to meals and movies, while the remainder of the facility can be locked.

Ms. Bozoian designed this facility while employed at Pearce Corporation.
