JOHNSON'S SHUT-INS STATE PARK
MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MIDDLEBROOK, MISSOURI
Bozoian Group Architects was selected by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources as part of a team that included Kwame Building Group, Inc. and William Tao and Associates to provide consulting services for the restoration of Johnson’s Shut Ins State Park. Bozoian Group Architects provided weekly on-site reviews to ensure the construction of the park facilities was in conformance with the plans and specifications and to the quality expected. Recommendations and solutions were presented to a variety of construction problems to ensure the Department’s best interests were protected throughout the project. Additionally, closeout procedures and documentation were closely monitored and reviewed before substantial completion and final acceptance of the project was established.
Johnson’s Shut Ins State Park required extensive restoration and redevelopment following the Taum Sauk reservoir disaster. The redevelopment of the park included new construction of an orientation center, seasonal housing, superintendent’s residence, walk-in cabins, gate houses, picnic shelters, campground facilities and restroom facilities. The orientation center will serve as the signature building of the park by welcoming visitors with interpretive displays that will provide education on the disaster as well as the park’s rich environmental and geological history.
